Monitoring and Limit Setting

Monitoring and healthy limits create safety and boundaries across all stages of a child’s development and help children follow rules and regulate their needs and emotions. This is critical because children with good self-regulation are more successful at school, with friends, and in community activities.

The videos below provide information and demonstrate how to use three skills that are essential for monitoring and setting healthy limits. The first set of videos demonstrate how to ask questions effectively so your child will share with you information about their whereabouts and activities. The second and third sets of videos demonstrate how to state rules clearly and how to use time-outs and remove privileges effectively. We invite parents to watch the videos on this page to learn how to use these skills and to practice them with their children.
